Sommerville faces 25 to life for Buffalo shooting

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — First Assistant Erie County District Attorney Michael Flaherty announced the conviction of Sir Prince Sommerville after he shot a man in the hand this past January.

Flaherty says Sommerville, 30, walked up the Grote Street stairs of a 49-year-old man and tried to force his way inside the man’s apartment.

The victim closed the door before Sommerville fired two shots through it, striking the 49-year-old in the hand. Sommerville used a .44 caliber weapon and barely missed the victim’s head.

The man was treated at ECMC and released.

Flaherty says Sommerville tried to get a third party to bribe the victim so that they would not cooperate in the prosecution.

Sommerville was found guilty of 2nd degree criminal possession of a weapon and 2nd degree assault.

He has two prior violent felony convictions for attempted robbery. Sommerville could face 25 years to life in prison when sentenced in December. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
