Local police honor vets by installing green lights

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — In the City of Dunkirk, police headquarters will be illuminated in green through the night.

The large lights, which are typically white bulbs that serve as a beacon in Dunkirk,  were switched out ahead of Veteran’s Day to green bulbs. The move honors veterans and active members of the armed forces.

“We want to show our respect and honor all the veteran members of our armed services who have served our country in the past, as well as those who currently serve in our armed forces today,” Police Chief David Ortolano said.

Ortolano said he hopes all citizens will change at least one bulb in their home to green to serve as a thank-you to those who gave for the greater good.
