HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB)- A Hamburg couple is inspiring others through love after being together for more than 70 years.
Holding hands, Josephine and Frank DiChristopher shared breakfast with their children at Peg’s Place Restaurant, just as they have for decades.
“I have to tell you what I tell my kids,” said Frank. “Family takes care of family and that’s why we’re all here.”
He and Josephine are celebrating 75 years of marriage. Frank, who is 95-years-old, still dotes on his wife, who is 99-years-old.
“My mom is in a nursing home, my dad goes almost every day to see her,” said their son Frank DiChristopher. “Some days she does not know him, some days she does know him. My dad is totally devoted to my mother.”
When the couple met, Frank was a city boy and Josephine was from the country. They settled in Hamburg and raised three children.
“To keep the family together he would work odd jobs, second jobs as a car salesman, delivering cookies, whatever it took to keep the family together while my mom stayed home and raised children,” said their daughter Maryann Soby.
The couple was committed through the ups and downs. Even though Josephine doesn’t always know who Frank is, he still makes sure she knows how much he loves her.
“A saying my father always says is that is you’ve got to believe,” said Soby.
The couple’s son told News 4 Frank still repeats the vows he made to his mother. We asked Frank what the secret to his long marriage is and he told us it’s simply love.
“You love, you take care of each other, you never argue or fight,” said Frank. “You love each other, that’s all that matters.”
