Sabres and Bills hope for a “Won Buffalo” repeat

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – There will likely be a lot of fans checking their phones at First Niagara Center tonight. For the second time this month, the Bills and the Sabres play at the same time.

They called November 12th “Won Buffalo” night. That’s when the Bills beat the Jets in Thursday night football, the Sabres won on the road in Florida. Tonight, Sabres host the St. Louis Blues here in Buffalo while the Bills are playing the Patriots in Foxboro in Monday Night Football.

The teams share ownership and a fan base, and even some of the players have special relationships with each other. Sabres Forward Matt Moulson grew up in Southern Ontario, and has always cheered for the Bills. He arranged a jersey swap with the Bills player who shares his number, 26.

“Me and my boy Boobie Dixon traded jerseys so, it’s been fun,” Moulson said. “The Bills community and the Buffalo community as a whole is a very close one especially with sports, and it’s been a lot of fun to be a part of that.”

“It’s just a think we do to support each other,” Dixon said in the Bills locker room at One Bills Drive. “Last year, he sent me a jersey and I sent him one back. It was pretty cool you know, because he’s really my first hockey player jersey you know. So it was cool.”

Puck drop at First Niagara Center is at 7, while the Bills don’t kick off until 8:30, so fans with tickets to the hockey game should be able to catch the second half of the Bills game afterwards. The Sabres plan on announcing game updates in the arena during the overlap time.
