NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – This Thanksgiving, a Niagara Falls family will have one person missing from the table. Fajri Hilson was shot and killed outside of Max’s Lounge in Niagara Falls in August.
This holiday will be the Hilson family’s first without him.
“It really feels horrible to go into Thanksgiving without my son,” Sheila Hilson, the victim’s mother said. “I love him and he’ll always be in my heart.”
Even though the 31-year-old isn’t here physically, his family will take time to remember a man, who made so many people smile.
“He was a great person, father, man, brother and son. A great protector and you took all of that away from me,” she said.
Twin brothers, Keon and Deon McTyere, are both charged with second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the Niagara Falls Police Department, the two allegedly walked up to either side of Hilson’s vehicle and fired multiple shots at close range. The father of three died at the hospital. Police say the accused shooters ran from the crime scene across from their family business.
Hilson’s family believes the arrest shows them that justice may finally be served.
“Right now, we’ve got a little closure and I’m thankful for it,” Contrena Hilson, the victim’s cousin said. “I’m just filled with all types of emotions. But I’m very happy that we don’t have to worry anymore that the people who took his life are walking around free. Now that I know they got them, we’re just going to let justice prevail.”
Keon and Deon McTyere will appear back in Niagara County Court on December 8th.
