BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A group of local climate justice advocates held a send off for the their own as they prepare to make the trip halfway around the world to talk about climate change.
A University at Buffalo professor for environmental law is heading to the United Nations Conference for Climate Change in Paris with six students.
“The greenhouse gas emissions – there is no choice now but to cut these,” said Jessica Owley, the UB professor after what she anticipates to be a big talking point at the conference. “Even if we stop what we’re doing today, we’ve already gone past the point where we will have a lot of damage to the world.”
This is the 21st conference discussing climate change. Owley has been wanting to go for a while but it is difficult to get in – so difficult, she had to petition the United Nations for passes to attend.
The local group is heading there for the second week of conversations. The conference runs from November 30 to December 12.
