Erie County Sheriff’s Office ends Marine Patrol’s season

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Sheriff’s Deputies charged with patrolling the waters of Erie County will hang up the keys to their boats as the Marine Patrol unit season ends.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office patrols the waters from the middle of may May through the middle of November each year on average and in 2015, logged more than 3,400 hours actively patrolling throughout the boating season.

Deputies on duty aided in 25 search and rescue missions, issued 165 summonses for navigation law violations, arrested four boaters for boating while intoxicated, investigated 14 accidents and warned 76 boaters.

The members of the Marine Patrol unit will transfer back to other assignments, between patrol districts and the Snowmobile Unit.
