South Park High School celebrates state football championship win

The South Park Sparks secure the state title in Syracuse on 11/27/2015

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The South Park Sparks celebrate a major win this Monday. South Park is the first Buffalo public school to win a state championship.

The team beat Our Lady of Lourdes from Poughkeepsie 49 to 46 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Friday.

South Parks’ Principal Theresa Schuta said this win gave the school a much needed moral boost. But for the team, the win is just becoming real.

Head Coach Tim Delaney said, “I think it’s finally setting in for our players and our student body just how special the last month has been.”

Quarterback Tyree Brown said, “We worked really hard this season, through a couple of ups and downs, but I really think we deserved it.”

Principal Schuta told us her next goal is to ensure every member of the team is college bound. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
