Following robbery, police chase suspects in car, on foot; arrest 2

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A series of crimes in Erie County involved police officers across the Tonawandas and North Buffalo throughout Monday.

Town of Tonawanda Police say a man walked into the Key bank at the Delton Plaza just before Noon wearing a respirator mask, wielding a handgun. The man demanded money and left when a clerk met his demand.

Police say they received help from a bystander who watched the man get into a blue 2016 Chrysler and flee on Delaware Avenue into the City of Tonawanda. Officers there began a chase, attempting to flag them down on River Road and into Black Rock.

Additional officers from the City of Tonawanda joined in on the chase, however a chain reaction car crash brought the chase to a momentary halt. The driver of the car with suspects inside crashed into a gas meter, and a police cruiser crashed into the back of that car soon after.

The suspects then made off on foot, police say. The chase took officers behind a factory on Race Street  in Buffalo where they arrested the suspects.

Police remained on-scene into the afternoon, where they say they’ve recovered stolen money and guns in a nearby field.

An investigation is continuing and News 4 will have the latest on News tonight.
