BPD investigating armed robbery near UB

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The University at Buffalo has issued an alert for an off-campus student robbery reported Sunday night.

The Winspear Avenue incident is being investigated by Buffalo Police.

UB says two male teenagers wearing dark colored clothes approached two people and asked one of them if he could use his cell phone.

One of the suspects pointed a black handgun at the victim before the other suspect struck the victim in the head, according to the school. The victim was not injured.

The school says the victim then gave the suspects his phone and wallet. The suspects ran westbound into the city and were later apprehended by police when they tried to sell the phone, according to UB.

The University at Buffalo reminds people to always travel with other people and to use either SBI Safety Services walk stations, a safety shuttle or other transportation services provided by the school when possible.

Suspicious activity can be reported to University Police at 645-2222.
