Two Buffalo families escape fire on Kilhoffer

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) –It could have ended much worse. It was dark out, and most of the residents were still sleeping.

The good news is that all eight occupants of a home at 16 Kilhoffer near Genesee Street made it out safely as fire ripped through all three floors of their home.

It started just after 6am, according to Buffalo Fire Division Chief Michael Tuberdyke. “When I arrived on scene,I did have a report that we may still have family members on the second floor. Crews did do a search, actually they did three different searches throughout the fire. We did confirm through the members that were in there that everybody was accounted for. It’s important for everybody to have an escape plan everywhere, always.”

Wednesday morning’s fire caused over $100,000 damage. The cause is still under investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
