RI company offers high-end Star Wars merchandise

LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — As the world prepares for the release of the new Star Wars movie on Friday, Rhode Island-based A.T. Cross is hoping the Force will be with their new line of pens.

The pen manufacturer has released a collection of Star Wars memorabilia, including pens and journals.

Three limited-edition pens – available with Darth Vader, C-3PO, or Stormtrooper theming – are part of the collection.

“The Star Wars franchise is a beloved franchise. Their fans are devoted to the Star Wars brand,” said Heidi Gagnon, Cross product marketing. “We focused on the three most iconic classic Star Wars characters – Darth Vader, C-3PO, and the Stormtrooper.”

The pens have some unique features. The C-3PO pen has 23-carat gold plating and the Darth Vader pen features a red ruby from Swarovski (another Rhode Island company) on top. The red which symbolizes the Sith Lord’s lightsaber.

Cross said only 1977 of the limited-edition Townsend pens will be available in each character. The number 1977, of course, symbolizes the year the original Star Wars was released in theaters. Each pen is stamped with which number it is in the collection.

And they’re not cheap. The rollerball versions cost $450 and the fountain pens cost $575. The Vader pen is already sold out.

For fans looking for a fun, less-expensive alternative, Cross also has a collection of click pens, which features the same three characters.

“These are a lot more fun. They have the character on the clip,” Gagnon said.

These pens are going fast as well, with some of them on back order.

Gagnon said she expects sales to remain brisk through Christmas.

“We thought it was an ideal fit for the two organizations. For the two brands.”
