Singing to ring in the holiday season

EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Thousands of carolers took to the street in East Aurora, looking to break an unofficial record for most people singing Christmas carols on the same street at once.

“It’s a really fun time to come out,” said Andrew Gordon, one of the carolers. “The whole community comes together. Everyone has a really great time. It’s like a movie come to life.”

It’s a tradition going on through the village for more than 40 years and it is continuing to grow with each holiday season.

“I grew up in the area,” said Amy Gipe who is at the caroling event with her family. “My mom tells me she brought me here in my pink snow suit when I was one and then we didn’t come for many years.”

Now she brings her children every year.

“It’s pretty wonderful to have a lot of people coming together and singing and having a good time together in a positive way.”
