Lines steps down as coach of NWSL’s Western New York Flash

ELMA, N.Y. (AP) — Aaron Lines has stepped down as coach of the Western New York Flash, the National Women’s Soccer League team has announced.

Lines will remain with the Flash in a management position. The move was announced Tuesday, and follows a season in which the Flash went 6-9-5 and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

The suburban Buffalo-based Flash has finished seventh in the nine-team league in each of the past two seasons.

Lines coached the Flash for seven seasons, dating to when the franchise was a member of the developmental W-League. In 2011, he coached a team that included international stars Carli Lloyd, Christine Sinclair and Marta to win the Women’s Professional Soccer league championship. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
