Teen charged with crash after allegedly fleeing cops

CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A car crash in the Town of Clarence is being blamed on a 17-year-old with a revoked license.

Officers say the teen crashed a car while fleeing Erie County Sheriff’s Deputies on Lapp Road. Officers pursued the teen after seeing a suspicious car pull into the Eastern Hills Mall parking lot.

The driver of the vehicle initially submitted to a traffic stop, police say, but fled the scene while pulled over, once the deputy left his car to speak with the teen.

In the process of the pursuit, police say the teen drove erratically, disobeying a number of laws, finally crashing into a tree.

The teen suffered minor injuries that he sought treatment for and is now in custody of Erie County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Officers say the teen is facing seven separate misdemeanors and 16 vehicle and traffic violations.

Investigation is continuing into the incident.
