BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Not since 1995 have Rex and Rob Ryan coached together. One could say it was only a matter of time.
“I’ll never say never,” Rex said, when asked if he would consider hiring Rob earlier this season.
Never did not last very long.
The Buffalo Bills announced late Sunday evening that Rob Ryan will join the coaching staff as Assistant Head Coach/Defense, reuniting the brothers for the first time in 21 years.
“I’m excited to have Rob join our staff and I think he will be a great asset for our defense. He has a tremendous working knowledge of our schemes and I look forward to his input,” said Rex Ryan. “On a personal note, it’s been a number of years since we have worked together and so we are both really looking forward to this opportunity.”
Rob was fired earlier this past season as the New Orleans Saints’ defensive coordinator. He has 17 years of NFL coaching experience and has made four different stops as a defensive coordinator. The hiring appears to have no affect on the role of Dennis Thurman, who served as defensive coordinator this past year.
