Ground breaks on $40 million expansion of Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Exciting development began in downtown Buffalo eight years ago, centered around the Buffalo Creek Casino, and now the city’s core and waterfront is humming with business and excitement. The Seneca Nation is now growing on its successes started nearly a decade ago with a $40 million expansion.

Officials met with developers and casino representatives to break ground on the expansion on the inner harbor fixture. The development, which is expected to start in late January, is expected to create 300 local jobs. Those jobs are in addition to the 440 construction jobs the build will employ.

The Buffalo Creek Casino will grow with a massive addition that will include a two-story build, adding nearly 60,000 square feet to the grounds. That will free up space for more than 300 new slot machines, table games and an expanded non-smoking area.

“Downtown Buffalo, and the Inner Harbor area in particular, is exploding with excitement and activity,” Audrey Oswell, chief operating officer of the Seneca Gaming Corporation, said. “As more people come to know this new Buffalo, Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino will be part of what they experience and remember.”

Across the western New York area, the Seneca Nation’s string of casinos in Niagara Falls, Salamanca and Buffalo employ roughly 4,000 locals and represent a $1 billion investment in infrastructure.
