BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The best dunk artist in all of Western New York might just be Niagara junior guard Emile Blackman.
A Google search brings up clips of Blackman embarrassing defenders dating back to his days in high school on Long Island. And now he’s doing the same in Lewiston, even garnering a Sportscenter Top 10 nod for a dunk against Canisius in February of 2015.
“I’m confident in my ability,” Blackman says with a grin. “If you put me up against anyone, I’ll probably show off a better dunk, or at least I’ll dunk on him before he dunks on me.”
Blackman’s uncle is former NBA all-star and current ESPN commentator Mark Jackson, who has been a big influence on Blackman’s game.
“I had 30 points in a game, and I told him I shot 10 of 16,” says Blackman. “And [Jackson] said, why didn’t you go 16 of 16? That’s the type of level he has played at and he’s trying to instill it in me.”
Blackman has another year left of eligibility at Niagara, who takes on rivals Canisius on Friday.
