Twitter users in WNY unaware of worldwide outage

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) –  Twitter has 320 million active users around the world, and many of them couldn’t log on for a period of time Tuesday. The website has been experiencing spotty outages all day.

It’s not clear why, but Twitter’s Support account said that they are aware of the issue and working to fix it. A complete shutdown started around 3am Eastern Standard Time, so many users in Western New York slept through it. Service was restored by around 5:30am.

The issue still left people wondering about what their worlds would be like without Twitter. News 4 caught up with a local blogger who depends on it for his job.

“There have been instances in the past where it intermittently has been really slow,” said Michael Augello, who writes about hockey. “When that happens, I go into a little bit of a panic mode, because it’s my pipeline for information.”

Now that Twitter seems to be working again for most users, people are catching up and tweeting about debacle. There are already millions of sad face memes inspired by the shutdown, and the hashtag “Twitter Down” has been the top trending topic ever since service returned.
