100 runners from around the world trek to Lockport to run 100 miles

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) –

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) –  Imagine running one hundred plus miles in below freezing temperatures. Call them crazy, but more than 100 people from around the world trekked out to Lockport to do just that.

Runners will be on their feet between 15 and 30 hours running around the south side of the canal.

David Drebsky is from Plan View, New York. This is his 4th “Beast of Burden” race. He said, “I have a huge passion for running. The further the better!”

But this is the first time he will be competing in the cold. He said, “As long as I can keep my core warm , keep my head warm and my hands warm,I should be okay.”

He wants to complete the race in 28 hours. He said he’s thankful for the the rest stops along the way to refuel. He said, “The support here is great. The people here, even when you want to quit, they wont let you.”
Part of his support team is his girlfriend, Lisa Bonnani. She’s a runner too, but she’ll cheer him on from the sidelines. Bonnani said, “We are all out here, we all converge from all over the world to Lockport to do this race. People from Chicago, from Long Island from Canada, Toronto, everywhere. We love being in Lockport, and in Western New York.”
Nina Vosburgh is running 50 out of the 100 miles. Her motivation is a list of reasons why she runs. For every mile listed, there is one person in her life she will run for.

She said, “You have to be a little bit crazy to do something like this. It’s fun, and it’s a challenge and it’s a good way to challenge yourself and get out there. Anybody and everybody can do it if they really want to.”

Bonnani said, “Even though it’s really cold outside, we’re always warm because of the people out here.”
