TIJERAS, N.M. (KRQE) – Every Saturday morning Jayden Allen, 9, wakes up early and packs lunches for homeless people. It’s an idea that came to him during the holidays when he noticed how many people there are in need.
“I just felt something that told me to do something good and I thought of making food for the homeless people,” said Jayden Allen.
Allen gets the food from his parents’ restaurant in Tijeras called Trail Rider Pizza. On Saturday, he stuffed the bags with water bottles, chips, hand warmers, sandwiches and spare change from his own pocket.
“I think it’s just a good thing to do, even if it lasts a day, that’s still helpful to them,” said Allen.
Jayden said he knows it’s not much, but people he helps said it gets the job done.
While the food only lasts for a bit, Jayden puts something else inside the bag that will last much longer. He puts a handwritten note saying “I believe in the good things coming.”
“He just blessed me and just made me a little strong in my heart. You know, it makes me clear-minded that there are people that do care,” said Leon Wilson.
“The more people that do this, the better the world is,” said Allen.
Jayden’s family and friends are also pitching in to help. They’ve donated items like hand warmers and bottled water for him to give out.
