Five-time convicted criminal found guilty again by jury on cocaine charges

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A criminal who has five prior drug convictions to his name will head back to jail after a jury found him guilty of cocaine charges.

Officers arrested Derek McQuiller, 42, after he threw a bag out of the window of his vehicle following a traffic stop. Police say they wound up finding over a dozen bags of cocaine both in the vehicle and in the pack he threw from his car.

Police booked the Buffalo native in the Town of Tonawanda, and say they found additional bags of cocaine under the bench where McQuiller waited for booking. Officers charged him with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, of a which a jury convicted him on Tuesday.

When McQuiller is sentenced, he faces up to 30 years behind bars and a fine of up to $2 million, or both. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
