BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Amateur boxers went fist to fist in Buffalo Sunday.
News 4 cameras were rolling during opening day of the state “Golden Gloves” competition. As you can see in the video above, it was a packed house at Buffalo Riverworks.
Fighters came from all over, including western New York, Syracuse and Albany.
“What Golden Gloves is about, is shaping the lives of youth,” says Don Patterson, president of Buffalo Golden Gloves. “Boxing is one aspect of it, but also, we’re trying to build character and make them successful human beings through the sport of boxing.”
This was the first year Riverworks hosted the competition. The winners will go on to the national tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah.
