Solicitors mistaken for town representatives reported in Cheektowaga

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Town of Cheektowaga says people mistaken as town representatives have been soliciting savings on utility bills to residents in the area.

According to the town’s Facebook page, the solicitors have been showing residents in the Town of Cheektowaga permits and asking to see their utility bills.

The town has denied sending people for this purpose. The Facebook post indicates that the people are not representatives of NYSEG either.

The solicitors have been going under the names “New York Gas and Electric” and “United States Gas and Electric (USG&E).” If you encounter the solicitors, the Town of Cheektowaga says that you do not have to show them your utility bill.

They have been known to be very aggressive, according to reports from residents.

As of Monday afternoon, solicitor permits for all employees going under that company name were revoked. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
