BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — In a creative move, Uber has launched a new aspect of its application for users outside of New York City, teasing what it would be like to have the service available.
Called “Future”, the app feature allows would-be riders to see how easy it would be to find a ride nearby if Uber was legalized and regulated in New York State. Already legal in New York City, Uber is asking lawmakers to make it available to the rest of the state.
According to Uber officials, there’s ample demand for the service — they say over 60,000 New Yorkers in January opened the app outside of New York City, only to be disappointed. Officials also noted Buffalo is the largest city in the U.S. without Uber.
As Uber continues to lobby New York State officials, it’s also pleading to would-be customers to commit their names to a petition, saying Uber should be in New York State.
In WNY, riders can utilize Uber just across the border in the Niagara Region.
