BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Officials with Wegmans Food Markets Inc. in Rochester confirmed Monday a scam circulating on Facebook.

The Facebook scam, brought to company attention by an employee at one of their grocery stores, claims the company is giving away a free $200 grocery coupon. Officials say the scam is not supported by Wegmans, and likely isn’t real.

“We’re actively working to have this fraudulent post removed from Facebook,” Jo Natale, Wegmans vice president of media relations, said in a release. “We urge consumers not to click it, share it or provide any personal information.”

The scam, which advertises people click on a link for a limited time offer, likely has negative consequences to those who click or submit personal information. The link seen on the Facebook post does not take customers to a Wegmans site. Wegmans’ official website is as follows: http://www.wegmans.com/
