Worker in Wheatfield pinned under 1,200 lb. granite slab, knocked unconscious

WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) — First responders and Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies rushed to the scene of an industrial accident after an employee sustained serious injuries while unloading granite.

While unloading a large slab of granite, officials say the slab broke free from a mount, injuring a 24-year-old employee, who helped bring the granite from Ohio. The man jumped partially out of the way, but still was struck, knocking him unconscious as the granite pinned him to the ground.

When first responders hit the scene at The Granite Shop on Niagara Falls Boulevard just after 9:30 a.m., they freed the man from the grasp of the 1,200-pound slab.

Mercy Flight flew to the parking lot, then rushed the man to the Erie County Medical Center for injuries to his legs and back.
