VILLAGE OF PERRY, N.Y. (WIVB) — Borden Avenue in Perry was closed by State Police for a majority of Saturday due to what prosecutors say was a murder.
Prosecutors say Desirae Withey, 33, was killed by Kira Kastenhuber, 38, sometime in the overnight hours and was discovered in her Borden Avenue home in the morning.
Authorities responded to the scene after receiving a call from a neighbor around 9:30 a.m.
On Sunday, Withey’s body was examined by Monroe County officials. Examiners say her death was a homicide caused by asphyxiation and multiple injuries.
Also on Sunday, authorities responded to a call for a potential overdose by Kastenhuber. She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and released Monday afternoon.
Following her release, Kastenhuber was taken into custody, arraigned and jailed without bail.
Kastenhuber wanted to disable and kill Withey after entering her residence as part of a preconceived plan, according to prosecutors.
“This investigation is continuing and we are asking for any information that the public may have to assist the investigating agencies with this case,” said Wyoming County District Attorney Donald O’Geen. “If anyone has any information please contact the State Police at (585) 786-5152, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Beyond this press release there will no further comment, interviews or release of any other information regarding this case either from my office or the members of law enforcement. At this time we ask that the family of Ms. Withey be given time to grieve the loss of their family member. Our condolences go out to her parents, children, friends and family.”
