Car crashes into Cheektowaga house, lands in basement

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Tuesday morning in Cheektowaga, a car crashed into a home and ended up in the basement.

The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. when the car came down Beach Road, crossed the center line and slammed into the house. The homeowners heard noise and called police.

The vehicle’s passenger was trapped inside but first responders worked to remove him from the car. The crews who pulled him out say he slipped in and out of consciousness. The car, which they say struck a furnace and a boiler, was removed later in the morning.

“We had crews down inside,” said U Crest Fire First Assistant Chief Bryan Chapman Jr. “We used the Jaws of Life to cut the roof off, the doors off; then we had to get the SMART doctors here. Then, we got the patient out.”

SMART, which stands for Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team, is the county’s volunteer public health emergency response organization.

The house is boarded up and police are watching the structure. The injured person was taken to ECMC. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
