Lancaster man allegedly used “Kik” app to solicit child porn

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Federal officials are cracking down on the use of social media to solicit child pornography as prosecutors announced yet another arrest of a local man on child porn charges.

The charges, like several other recent cases, stem from a local adult utilizing a mobile application called “Kik” which allows people to anonymously communicate. Federal prosecutors say it also allows predators to access children, with whom the app is popular.

Federal prosecutors announced Tuesday the arrest of 24-year-old Joseph Lombardo, of Lancaster, on charges of production, receipt and possession of child pornography.

Police built the case after a victim came forward to police in Lancaster in May of 2014. Details released by prosecutors say a 15-year-old female came forward after waiting at least three years of being extorted for photos.

The case says a male solicited pictures from her, then threatened to expose her should she not send more. That victim sent at least 50 pictures to the male, and the crime ended there for a time.

Police say the solicitation continued in April of 2014 when the victim received a new phone and the anonymous user began soliciting more photos from her. The solicitation led the girl to send another 100 nude photos, about which she complained to a friend.

That third party allegedly told the girl a person by the name of Dan could help solve her issue and stop the solicitation. The girl then began communicating with Dan, who pressured her to meet up. When the two met up, the victim said she had sexual relations with him, despite telling him she wasn’t of age.

The alleged abuse led the victim to come forward, at which time she identified a photo of Dan, who police identified as Joseph Lombardo.

Subsequent searches of Lombardo’s property reportedly revealed he solicited pictures from the girl, along with other victims, who he met on another anonymous website.

Police ultimately highlighted three victims, two of whom say they engaged with Lombardo in underage sexual contact. Lombardo’s next court appearance will be a detention hearing on Feb. 10.

If found guilty of the charges, Lombardo will face up to 30 years behind bars, but no less than 15 years in prison.
