NEW YORK (WIVB) — New allegations of assault are coming against former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.
A 25-year-old Russian woman told New York City Police that Eliot Spitzer was her boyfriend, and got physical with her during an argument at a hotel, according to law enforcement sources that spoke with CNN and CBS.
Police received the call Saturday and found the woman with cuts on her wrist. She reportedly told officers at the hospital that she and Spitzer argued, and that’s when it turned physical.
Spitzer allegedly pushed the woman and had his hands around her neck, according to police sources. Sources say the incident was not sexual in nature and that Spitzer and the woman have known each other for the past two years.
The argument allegedly started after the woman said that she was going to go back to Russia. During the same night, sources say the woman allegedly attempted suicide.
Detectives have not spoken with Spitzer, but sources who spoke with police say the woman does not want to press charges. A statement from Spitzer’s spokeswoman Lisa Linden says “there is no truth to the allegation.”
Spitzer resigned as Governor in 2008 after a prostitution scandal.
