FARMINGTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — Frozen hydrants proved to be a major issue during a Monday morning fire at an American’s Best Value Inn in Ontario County.

Flames and heavy smoke were still able to be seen from the roof of the hotel in Farmington on Route 96 more than two hours after the fire started.

The blaze began around 3:30 a.m. and spread faster than fire crews could put up lines. Backup was called in in the form of tankers. In all, 18 crews responded to the scene.

10 people escaped unharmed, but one firefighter slipped on ice and was hospitalized.
