Man charged with menacing following Concord standoff

TOWN OF CONCORD, N.Y. (WIVB) — Following a Thursday standoff in the Town of Concord, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man they say menaced officers.

Deputies were investigating a hit-and-run accident on Ridge Trail around 1:30 p.m. The accident had caused property damage.

While one deputy was preparing to issue and appearance ticket to Frank Vella, 50, Vella allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and approached the officer’s vehicle.

This led the deputy to contact additional units.

Authorities say they then began negotiations with Vella in an attempt to bring a resolution to the situation. During this time, a portion of Ridge Trail had been closed off to traffic.

The situation was subsequently resolved and Vella was charged with menacing — a felony.

Vella was then remanded to the Erie County Holding Center before his arraignment. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
