Teresa Weakley on playing fiddle with Americana band in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — News 4 WakeUp! Anchor, Teresa Weakley, spends much of her day in the studio and the newsroom, or taking care of her two children, but she also finds time for one of her first loves; music.

“I’ve been playing violin since I was nine years old, but didn’t start playing fiddle until I was about 22 years old and lived in Nashville, Tennessee. They say the only difference is that a violin has ‘strings’ and a fiddle has ‘strangs’, but for me it’s the difference between reading sheet music and coming up with your own part”, explained Weakley about learning a new style of music. She started playing with the Buffalo-based American band, Ten Cent Howl, in 2015 after meeting the lead singer through a Channel 4 Fantasy Football draft.

“I met Teresa through my friends at Channel 4, and we talked about my band how she used to play in Nashville, so I invited her to come play with us sometime and she actually showed up! When she started playing it fit right in with the rest of the band, and so we kept inviting her to shows and rehearsals, and she eventually became an official member of Ten Cent Howl”, said Bill Smith, of Ten Cent Howl.

Ten Cent Howl plays at venues all over Western New York. Their most recent album, titled “Ain’t it Strange?” is available on iTunes or at any of the band’s shows.
