BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man who admitted to raping and sodomizing a store clerk during a robbery a year ago will spend 50 years under the watchful eye of New York State.
Michael Sanchez, 28, faced sentencing in state court on Wednesday, when a judge decided he would spend 25 years in state prison and face 25 years of post-release supervision — the maximum sentence he could have received.
Sanchez pleaded guilty in November to raping, sodomizing and robbing a 20-year-old 7-Eleven store clerk on Hertel Avenue and Niagara Street in February.
Prosecutors mounted a solid case against him after locating Sanchez just blocks from the 7-Eleven after the brutal attack. Officers worked with the victim who detailed the 5 a.m. attack, depicting her assailant, who threatened her with a gun before taking her into a storage room and raping her.
Sanchez has previously spent time in prison, for two felony robberies, and a judge took that into consideration before issuing his maximum sentence.
