Mom charged with endangering kids when house catches fire appears in court

EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Kirsten Kelly, 28, appeared in front of a judge Wednesday night. Kelly is facing charges including third degree assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

She was in East Aurora Town Court asking the Honorable Jeffrey Markello to postpone moving forward with the charges she is facing while Kelly and the father of her children are going through county court hearings and dealing with Child Protective Services.

The agency took away Kelly’s three youngest children after police say the mom drank too much and pass out while food was on the stove, which sparked a fire, burning down her mobile home.

A neighbor saw smoke and smelled something burning. He says he knocked on the door multiple times before going inside, saving Kelly and her three kids.

Kelly is out on bail tonight. Her next appearance in East Aurora Town Court is scheduled for April 20. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
