Buffalo man sentenced after May hit-and-run

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo resident, who in October admitted to a May incident where he hit a Louisiana man with a car and sped off, was sentenced Thursday in court.

Carl Nye III, 30, will spend six months in jail for leaving the scene of the Elmwood Ave. accident.

Adam Brown, 52, was crossing the street when he was struck by Nye’s vehicle. After Nye attempted to hide his vehicle, it was found an hour later in South Buffalo.

Brown spent many months in a rehabilitation center after suffering head trauma and a severe leg injury.

The judge said Nye was not criminally responsible for the accident, but he was held accountable for leaving the scene. The latter still led to a felony charge against Nye.

In addition to jail time, Nye was also sentenced to five years of probation and 200 hours of community service.

After the sentencing, Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael Flaherty said, “Once again, the professional, thorough and expedient investigation by the members of the Buffalo Police Department provided our office with the evidence needed to prosecute this defendant to the fullest extent of the law.”
