BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Your job could be taking years off your life.

Certain jobs put us under more stress. Sometimes, the trouble is peer pressure and the lifestyles coworkers maintain.

Researchers looked at more than 5,000 healthy people by career.

68 percent of the salespeople studied had poor eating habits. 69 percent had bad cholesterol.

Administrative staff are also in trouble. They don’t make time to be physically active.

Restaurant workers typically don’t do well either, perhaps because of all the food that surrounds them. 79 percent had poor diets.

Our first responders also may want to pay attention to what they eat. 90 percent of police officers and firefighters in the study were obese or overweight.

77 percent of police and firefighters had high cholesterol. 35 percent had high blood pressure.

At the top of the unhealthy list — truckers.

Nearly a quarter smoke. That’s worse than any other profession. Many end up dying from lung disease or heart problems.

The healthiest professionals in the study were managers, while professionals like doctors and lawyers did better too.

They hit the gym fairly regularly and 75 percent are considered at least moderately active.
