Chautauqua County officials make ice-fishing rescue during warm snap

TOWN OF CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Unseasonably warm weather thinned the ice on Chautauqua County’s Chautauqua Lake, causing two ice fishermen to fall through into icy water Tuesday.

The two fisherman called for help after one man, 57, made it out of the ice and helped a 79-year-old cling to safety until first responders could make it to the scene. A Dewittville Fire Department vessel was the first on the scene, and helped both men make it to safety.

Both men were treated for hypothermia when they were rushed to Westfield Memorial Hospital.
