BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A highly anticipated restaurant on Hertel Avenue has the green light to begin construction.
Developers of the Deep South Taco that could spring up in the place of an abandoned gas station say they’re excited at the prospect of breaking ground after getting final approval from Buffalo’s Common Council.
The idea of the restaurant, which has both indoor and outdoor seating, has morphed during the quest to get it approved by the Zoning Board, Planning Board and Common Council.
Originally slated to be a trendy southwest-style restaurant with a grill indoors and outdoors and music on the patio, residential concerns have pared down some of the glam. A kitchen will no longer be allowed outside — the restaurant must have a central kitchen indoors. Speakers will also no longer be allowed on the patio.
Developers say they hope to get construction started soon and finish the restaurant by May.
