Vertical race brings hope to the fight against lung disease

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) –  Each spring, hundreds of people voluntarily race up all 38 stories of Buffalo’s tallest building in honor of those who are fighting and have fought against lung cancer and other lung diseases.

The Fight For Air Climb is taking place at One Seneca Tower on Saturday, March 12th. The fundraiser for the American Lunch Association traditionally draws downs of local firefighters, who run in their full gear.

“We have about one hundred fifteen firefighters coming out from different departments and associations across the area,” said Kelli Hanson of the American Lung Association. “We’re so excited to have them. It’s hard work for them to do it, but it’s wonderful for them to have them here.”

The first climb begins at 7:30 Saturday morning. If you would like to learn more or register your team, click here. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
