DARIEN CENTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 24-year-old tradition at Darien Lake Theme Park is getting an upgrade for the next season.
The popular “Ignite the Night” laser light show will soon feature full-color laser beams, extra pyrotechnics, a new soundtrack and radio frequency-driven LED color wands for viewers to use during the show.
The wands glow in a variety of colors and can be purchased for eight dollars.
The annual “Ignite the Night” shows, which take place every evening on the lawn of the Lakeside Amphitheater, have evolved over the years since their inception in 1992.
Initially, the shows just featured simple yellow and green lasers, which were considered “new-age at the time,” according to Darien Lake officials.
In 1995, 3D aspects made their way into the shows. Hydro-cannon blasters and a 100-foot-wide water screen arrived in 2013.
Each show ends with a blast of fireworks as Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American” plays in tribute to the country’s heritage.
“Our Ignite the Night laser show is the perfect way to end a fun-filled day with us,” said Darien Lake General Manager Chris Thorpe. “Families gather at the lawn on a warm night and look to the sky for a spectacular and magical experience.”
The shows start at 10:10 p.m. and run from May 20 until Sep. 4.
