Family left homeless as crews investigate “suspicious” fire at a house and abandoned bar

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Fire crews were on scene for hours Saturday, investigating a blaze they’re calling “suspicious”.

The fire commissioner says the blaze broke out just before 8 p.m. at an abandoned bar on Military Road between Lawn and Hertel. The commissioner says the fire went to an attached house, the damage to both sites is extensive.

When crews arrived and searched the burning properties, they found a mother and her two small children in an upstairs room at the. The commissioner says the three people had to be carried out by crews.

“They were scared,” said Garnell Whitfield, the Buffalo Fire Commissioner.

The Red Cross is helping the family.
