Rochester man accused of plotting terrorism renounces ISIS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Rochester man set to be sentenced on Thursday for terrorism-related charges says he has renounced ISIS.

The admissions of Mufid Elfgeeh, 30, come from court paperwork.

Law enforcement officials say Elfgeeh plotted to kill U.S. military members. U.S. Attorney William Hochul says Elfgeeh admitted to trying to send three people to Syria so that they could join ISIL.

Hochul says Elfgeeh will serve a 22-year sentence due to a plea agreement. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
