NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – An armed man was taken into custody after a five-hour standoff in south Nashville early Friday morning.
It happened at a residence in the 200 block of Stirton Road just after Midnight.
Police told Media General contributors a woman inside the home said she was threatened by her boyfriend who was armed with a gun.
Negotiations began after officers encountered the armed man just outside the home. The woman was located by police and taken to safety.
SWAT and K-9 officers were called to the scene to assist with negotiations, which included officers trying to convince the man not to harm himself.
After nearly five hours of negotiations, authorities deployed a flash distraction device and a K-9 was able to apprehend the man.
The man suffered a bite to his leg and was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Neighboring homes were evacuated during the standoff.
The man is expected to be charged with aggravated assault.
No additional information was immediately released.
