Dog killed during Genesee County house fire

ALABAMA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two adults and three dogs made it out alive after a fire began at a home in Alabama late Thursday night, but one animal was not so lucky.

When fire crews arrived at the scene on Knowlesville Road around 11 p.m., they said they saw flames coming out of the front room area.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but the home was not declared livable. The residents, who lost one of their dogs in the fire, will stay with family for now.

Water damage was done to the first floor, while smoke and fire effected the second floor and attic.

Fire officials say a treadmill may have started the blaze. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
