Police beefing up security for St. Patrick’s Day parades

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — St. Patrick’s Day came and went, but the fun doesn’t stop there. Several parades will be going on over the weekend and police have a message for those attending the parades.

Parades are a way to get the community together to have fun and enjoy the local entertainment, but Buffalo Police said they are beefing up patrols to keep everyone safe.

Officials said over the years the parades have grown in popularity and size. Due to that, police told News 4 they will be increasing police personnel to watch for underage drinking, public intoxication and drinking and driving. Authorities ask that nobody brings any alcoholic containers to the parade.

This is all an effort to ensure everyone’s safety while having a good time.

“We expect people to be aware that the police will be out. We will have a strong police presence, but we want people to come down, we want people to have a great time, these are great events,” said Mayor Byron Brown, City of Buffalo.

Police said they will also have their skywatch camera out to see the crowd during the parade and they’re confident people will come out and enjoy themselves, regardless.
