Driver suffers medical emergency before crashing and landing in retention pond

SLOAN, N.Y. (WIVB)- Officials say an elderly woman suffered a medical emergency while driving on William st. Saturday before crashing into an industrial building.

The woman drove through a chain link fence and knocked down a tree before launching the car into the building.The vehicle then fell into a 12 foot retention pond filled with approximately 3 feet of water.

Cheektowaga Lt. Steven Berezz says the woman could have been in the pond for up to 4 hours since police weren’t notified of the scene until 3 p.m. The medical examiner pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
