Colvin Cleaners collecting prom dresses for local girls

KENMORE, N.Y. (WIVB) — For the 11th year in a row, Colvin Cleaners in Kenmore is collecting prom dresses for “Gowns For Prom.”

The annual event seeks to provide dresses to local girls at no cost to them as prom season gets closer in the school year.

“This is one of the most exciting and fun projects that we run all year and we are so gratified to be able to help the young women of WNY,” stated Colvin Cleaners Owner and President Paul Billoni.

Colvin Cleaners will be collecting dresses at their location at 2375 Elmwood Avenue from March 21 through April 16. Dresses can also be donated at Ted’s Hot Dogs, BAC for Women facilities, the Boulevard Mall and Dash’s Markets.

After this, the dresses will be brought to Shea’s for dispersal. In the past, Gowns For Prom has had thousands of dresses available each year.

“Last year we serviced more than 55 high schools and over the last eleven years we have collected over 22,000 gowns and distributed over 8,500 gowns to young ladies. Each year this event becomes more successful because of the generosity of the people of Western New York,” Billoni explained.

The dresses will be available at Shea’s from April 18-20 from 3 to 8 p.m. A full staff will be present to make alterations to dresses if needed and Shea’s will provide rooms for girls to try them on.

“This is quite an experience for these girls to step onto the stage of beautiful Shea’s and pick out a gorgeous gown which will be tailored specifically for them,” Billoni said.

Girls are encouraged to check and see if their school has a designated day to participate in the event. Anyone who wishes to sign their school up for the event can do so here.
