AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – After the University at Buffalo’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both made it to the NCAA tournaments, the campus community is coming together to celebrate both teams’ successful seasons.
A rally will be held in the Student Union on UB’s North Campus at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
UB’s President will be there to congratulate the coaches and players from both teams. The students behind the cowbell chant and UB cheerleaders will be on hand to celebrate, too.
This rally comes after the women’s team made it’s first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. They won the MAC championship to guarantee their spot in the big dance, but were knocked out of the NCAA tournament in the first round, losing 88-69 to Ohio State in Columbus.
The UB men’s basketball team also lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament, falling 79-72 to Miami in Providence. This was the men’s second appearance in the NCAA tournament in two years.
And, while neither team was successful in advancing in this year’s tournament, both had successful seasons, and the UB campus will be celebrating that this week.
Tuesday’s rally is open to the public, but parking is limited.
Members of the public should park in the Center for Tomorrow lot on Flint Road and take a shuttle to the Flint Loop, then walk to the Student Union. Campus officials say you should plan about 20 minutes of travel time between the parking lot and the rally.
The rally will also be streamed live online at http://ubbulls.com/ustream
